Dr
Athanasios Garavelas is a distinguished obstetrician-gynecologist with international presence and recognized expertise in gynecological surgery, assisted reproduction, and regenerative medicine.
Born in Athens, he graduated from the Medical School of “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 2004 and obtained his medical license in 2005. In 2013, he completed his specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Athens, further enhancing his clinical knowledge and surgical expertise.
With over 15 years of clinical practice, Dr Garavelas has developed a strong academic and research focus in assisted conception, male and female infertility, reproductive endocrinology, recurrent miscarriage, and all aspects of benign gynecology. His particular clinical interests include the management of women with decreased ovarian reserve, recurrent implantation failure, fertility preservation/egg freezing, and unexplained infertility.
An accomplished surgeon, he is an expert in hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery, with extensive experience in the management of reproductive abnormalities and gynecological conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, adhesions, and Fallopian tube disease. He is also recognized as one of the pioneers of ovarian and endometrial rejuvenation therapies, applying innovative PRP/SVF protocols.
Dr Garavelas holds two Master’s degrees in Reproductive & Regenerative Medicine and High-Risk Pregnancy, and earned his PhD from the University of Athens with a dissertation on HPV and chlamydial infections in assisted reproduction. He holds a specialized certification in Human Reproduction from the University of Athens, confirming his high level of scientific expertise.
Dr Garavelas currently practises in Athens, Rome, Milan, London, and Dubai, providing fertility care and advanced gynecological treatments to an international patient community. He collaborates with IASO Maternity Hospital and serves as Scientific Coordinator of the International Department at the Institute of Life-IASO. He was also a founding member of the Institute of Life-IASO, where he played a key role in establishing innovative IVF services. In addition, he is the Scientific Director of Ovagenesis and serves on the IVF Scientific Board of Eurofins Genoma, where he contributes to the development and implementation of advanced reproductive medicine protocols.
He is an active member of leading professional societies, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
