Colposcopy

Colposcopy is a specialized, non-invasive examination that allows for thorough monitoring of the cervix, vagina, and external genitalia using a special instrument called a colposcope. This procedure, which is usually performed on an outpatient basis, aims to detect any abnormalities or potential problems with absolute accuracy. With the help of colposcopy, you can monitor your health and ensure early diagnosis and treatment if necessary.

The procedure lasts about 30 minutes and begins with taking a full medical history. Then, the colposcope is used to magnify the area of the cervix so that any abnormalities or other signs can be identified. With the intense light and precise monitoring, the doctor can provide a clear picture of the condition. At the end of the examination, the results are explained in detail, and if needed, further steps such as the removal of cells for histological analysis or some form of treatment are suggested.

Indications for Colposcopy

  • Abnormal Pap Smear Result

If there is an abnormal result in a previous Pap smear, colposcopy may be needed for further investigation.

  • Severe Pain or Discomfort During Sexual Intercourse

Colposcopy can reveal any issues with the cervix that are causing pain or discomfort during intercourse.

  • Changes in Menstrual Flow

Colposcopy can help detect causes of excessive or prolonged bleeding during menstruation.

  • History or Suspected Viral Infections (such as HPV)

If there is suspicion of infections like HPV, colposcopy checks for any abnormalities in the cervix.

Colposcopy gives you the opportunity to examine your body preventively, with respect for your health and comfort, allowing for a clear diagnosis that enables the proper and timely treatment if necessary. It is a process that empowers you in prevention and health, offering the safety and assurance that you are monitoring the health of your cervix in the best possible way.
